Cybercafe Setup Released

We are happy to be able to release a test version the full setup that we use for our work at the cybercafe and our other projects. This is a specially customised version of puppy linux 2.15ce that we have called "EcoPup".

Although currently still in BETA (testing) it has already attacted over 3 terabits of downloads this month and we are looking for organisations to help us cope with download bandwidth. Ecopup is specially designed to be able to be installed in 10-15 minutes on any standard P.C. computer with more than 128mb of RAM and at least a 200mhz processor with 1.2gb of disk space. It is rare in that it can also be installed onto an already operating (or even a dead) windows computer without reformatting or partitioning, thereby preserving all data. Simply start your computer in windows (if working, otherwise start from the cd and it will enter a cutdown live mode). Unzip the file "ecopup.zip" onto the root directory of the hard disk and reboot. Ecopup is accessed by booting from the CD once the two files are in place. Take the cd out and the computer will boot normally into windows without effecting it's setup in any way (cd in - linux, cd out, windows). This is one of the only distributions able to operate in this way and allows people to test drive the reliability, speed and freedom of linux open source software. It can be installed onto an average second user computer in ten to fifteen minutes, making computer recycling economically viable. Included are the full range of programs for all of the most common tasks, including an office suite, filesharing, internet adult and educational games, graphics, recording, burning cd's, scanning, printing, radio etc. Please feel free to download and distribute Ecopup and pass it on.
